Car rental deposit in Morocco: amounts, hold and release
Understand Morocco car rental deposits: card holds, timelines and how to get your deposit released faster.
The deposit protects the agency against damage or contract breaches. Here is how it works, what is normal, and how to speed up release.
What is the deposit for?
The security deposit covers rental risks: uncovered damage, excess, missing fuel, unpaid fines or unauthorised extensions. It is not an extra fee when everything goes well.
On Udrive, amount and rules appear on the vehicle sheet. Read them before booking — thousands of MAD can change your choice.
Card hold vs charge
Most agencies place a temporary hold on a Visa/Mastercard in the driver’s name. Funds are not charged but reduce available credit until release.
Some agencies charge then refund. Always ask for written proof. Avoid all-cash deposits unless you accept the risk and get a detailed receipt.
Typical amounts
Economy cars often require a few thousand to around ten thousand MAD depending on category and excess. SUVs and premium cars usually need more.
A high excess without reduction usually means a larger deposit. Compare excess-reduction cost to peace of mind on longer trips.
Faster deposit release
Return on time, with the agreed fuel level and a tidy interior. Complete the check-out together and keep a signed copy.
Banks may take 5–15 business days to release a hold after agency approval. If delayed, contact the agency first with your booking number, then your bank.
Disputes
Pickup photos and the contract matter. Report impacts during the rental immediately. Do not leave the desk without clarity on any retained amount.
