Renting a car in Morocco with a French or foreign licence
French, European or international licence: what Moroccan agencies ask for and how to prepare.
Tourists and short-stay visitors can usually rent with a foreign licence. Here are common cases and exceptions to plan for.
French and European licences
A French (or other EU/EEA) licence is widely accepted if valid and the driver meets the age requirement for the category.
Bring the original plastic card. A phone photo is not enough at the desk. Older paper formats may need an international permit as backup.
Licences from outside Europe
US, Canadian, UK, Gulf or Asian licences vary by agency. Many accept the national licence plus an International Driving Permit (IDP), especially for tourists.
Get the IDP before travel in your home country — it complements, not replaces, your national licence.
Additional drivers
Every driver must present a valid licence and be named on the contract. Undeclared drivers are often uninsured. Budget for second-driver fees if any.
Minimum age applies to all drivers. Young drivers may be barred from sporty or premium categories.
Before you fly
Original licence + ID/passport, bank card in the driver’s name, booking confirmation, and IDP if needed. Keep encrypted scans offline.
At pickup, do not sign a contract that differs from your confirmed booking without clarity. Contact Udrive support with your reference if unsure.
